Isn’t it weird how grown-ups tell you to go outside and take advantage of the sunshine? This reminds me of a conversation I was having with @RunSqueezyRun – it seems we’re both not so great at hot sunny weather.
I feel very British right now.
heheh, that’s me there,
over by the radish
getting hawwwt
Being in the hot sun isn’t great, but getting the light in your eyes helps a ton with depression. (Part of why I probably won’t move to the pacific northwest of the US).
I know I am incredibly late to this party, since it’s almost 6 months later, but I just wanted to say that I have a disorder called Summer Seasonal Affective Disorder (Summer SAD) and being out in the sun is not only painful, but oppressive and brings on symptoms of depression. For me, I hug the shade, try to stay cool, and am vastly looking forward to moving to the Pacific Northwest of the US because I may finally get some relief! Just wanted to introduce that perspective!
Innnnnteresting, I had heard of SAD and summer SAD but never known someone who had it. I imagine it’s not much of an issue in Britain, where we have about a week of really hot summer per year…
Unfortunately, I live in a desert. We get months of days over 32-37 degrees (Celsius) and it is Oppressive with a capital O for people like me. It’s also a light issue. Once the days start getting longer, and there’s more light, I get more depressed. So hugging the dark and the shade becomes an art, heh.
Eek.
Dark glasses and night shifts would be my approach. It sounds tough. Or living in Wales (which I do). I might have summer SAD and not even know it!
