So true… and yes, both are indicative that the people don’t know you at all.
I have friends and/or acquaintances that still come up to me and ask how me and hubs (was once boyfriend) are doing as if they expect we would not be together, what with the nonmonogamy and all. Even back then I’d say we weren’t monogamous and I’d get that look of pity as though I must say that to feel better about the situation.
Yeah…a gay friend wanted to know if I was jealous when he found out that my husband has a girlfriend and didn’t understand that the only jealousy I had was that he has one and I didn’t…and my husband nearly ripped through a younger co-worker when he said some-thing along the lines of “Dude,Two Girls?! You da man! *insert to go for high five here*” but kept it to a quiet but stern “No. I am in love with both of them, do not talk about them like that.”
meh, I disagree. Gender incongruities are still a really big problem, but nowadays kind men feel shamed for their longstanding privileges. As a poly man, I often feel insecure that I will be judged as a heartless dick for having multiple lovers.
Hmmn, the female friend concern I’ve definitely experienced, but what about Option C) – the girl telling her (often MALE) friends who gets told she’s a disgusting skank who’ll of course be riddled with STDs and that it’s “no way to find a husband”?
Not been my experience at all. Most mono guys I’ve run into think that a man should protect his territory. They might say that if he had a mono girlfriend who went mono-poly with him, but that’s it.
Mistress DTL – and also let’s not forget the male telling his female friends, at which point they’re likely (as David suggests) to express their disapproval, and how they now have a lower opinion of him because they assume he’s a “player” who’s just hidden it well so far…
I somehow ended up with people asking my husband if he was sure he was ok with it and calling a me a slut and telling me I was being mean to him. I apparently live in bizarro world.

Ugh, so true! People think it is so wonderful for a man to have 2 wives, too… they don’t think of the work involved in such relationships.

THIS! This has been my experience as well…. women just view the guy as a player that’s “using” the women. Ugh.
I object to the scrollover text on this one. I’m your friend and I totally don’t fit into panel two. 😛
Heh! I should’ve said that they both kind of suck, really, shouldn’t I? You’re way too nice to be in panel 2.
