I’m cool with pronouns like ze/hir/hirs, but for myself, I prefer words that are already well-used in the English language, so there’s as little adaptation as possible, y’know? I don’t know anyone who uses ze/hir/hirs, so I don’t know how I’d get used to the new words. I’d probably just default to they for a while, until the new vocab sunk in. 🙂
For me, I’m happy for people to use whatever they like, as long as it’s not he or she. I even had a friend use “it” for a while, because I knew she was using it in a non-gitty way, though it didn’t stick.
I have a friend who goes by ze, and most times people just assume I’m saying “she” funnily. I get asked more often about it when I’m typing than when I’m speaking. When talking with those who aren’t as comfortable with gender-neutral pronouns, I generally default to “they” or use my friend’s name instead of a pronoun at all, for as much as I’m all for exposing people to different pronouns, sometimes it gets in the way of having succinct conversations.
I’m guilty of using sh/he (Shuh-He) when I’m not sure, which is the same one I use for unborn kiddies. occasionally gets a huh? but gets my point across most of the time.
love it 🙂
what do you think of gender-neutral pronouns like ze/hir/hirs?
Thanks! 🙂
